Whether you have a large family or not, it’s incredibly hard to keep your home neat and tidy every single day. Clutter builds up quickly, you run out of time to organize all of that mail, and spills happen daily. But if you’re tired of spending an entire Saturday getting your house in order only to see it fall apart by Wednesday, here are seven small things you can do each day to keep your home clean.
- Spray & Wipe Your Bathroom Every Day
Sounds simple, right? That’s because it is. Keep a bottle of bathroom cleaner and some paper towels nearby so that every day, you can simply spray down the bathroom surfaces and wipe. It will keep the bathroom clean until you do a larger cleaning and it will also make sure you keep your countertops and other surface areas clean.
- Have a To-Go Basket in Each Room
This basket stays empty until you start finding things that don’t belong in each room. Toys from your kids’ rooms, clothes that need to be in the laundry room, shoes, homework — throw all of it in the to-go basket as you find it. At the end of the day, take the baskets and empty them, putting everything back in their place. While you’re busy during the day, however, this can keep the house from getting too cluttered.
- Keep A Dry Mop Nearby
Sweeping can be a total pain, but dirty floors are even worse. Invest in a dry mop, like a Swiffer, and keep it nearby any hard floor surfaces so you can quickly run it through the room at least once a day.
- Create a Station for Everyday Clutter
Like your keys, mail, and wallet. A small basket near the front door is always a good start, but there are plenty of other larger organizational caddies for things like this.
- Empty the Dishwasher Before You Start Cooking
That way, you can throw the dishes as you dirty them straight back into the dishwasher and avoid the giant pile-up in the sink at the end of dinner.
- Make Your Bed
Because a neatly made bed instantly pulls a room together.
- Throw Things Away
Don’t leave junk mail sitting on the counter or empty cereal boxes littering the counters. Just throw them away. You’ll be surprised at how much stuff you can actually toss.
Of course, you’ll still have big cleaning days to thoroughly clean your home, but these seven daily activities won’t take much time and can ensure that your home is never too cluttered or messy.
